Effective Diplomacy


Objective :
This workshop aims to explore both theoretical foundations and practical skill-sets for strategic diplomacy. Participants will engage critically with a range of different theories and modern diplomatic practices taking local examples and cultivate a sophisticated comprehension of employment of diplomacy. Participants will be expected to attend and engage in group discussions and presentations.

Content :
Today’s successful strategy demands comprehensive knowledge and policy-oriented skills at the intersection of diplomacy in global governance. Both diplomacy and global governance are important institutions of any successful order in turbulent times. The participants would be able to look into the nature of diplomacy and construct a comprehensive definition and explore what constitutes success and Failure in Diplomacy, the successful qualities of a strategic diplomat. It offers what is accepted as normal practice of diplomacy and the various techniques of international negotiation will be addressed by practical and contemporary examples, and to look to use Diplomacy as a method  for resolutions of conflicts through negotiation and dialogue.

Method of training:
It is interactive, building on participants’ knowledge and experience. Individual and work group discussions include conceptual input and are also based on hands-on learning methods. Tools and concepts are introduced and case studies are examined.
