Introduction to Diplomacy and International Relations

Objective :
Become the best diplomatic representative you can be with knowledge and tools that honors your nation, Impresses your peers and builds your personal confidence.

Overview:
Grasping the theoretical foundations of international relations and world politics is an essential element for any diplomat to function adequately in a high-risk, high-reward global environment. International Relations is the study of the global organization of political authority (legitimate political power). The world system that it describes is deeply rooted in classical texts and events. However, the actual framework of sovereign States and international organizations that shaped the modern world, emerged through a set of treaties to halt and prevent war and promote peace. The course provides a historical overview of world politics and describes the various theories with which international relations can be modelled and understood. Furthermore, the course provides an insight into the role of diplomacy in shaping world politics and foreign policy. The prospective diplomat receives a tool box with which to analyze international political issues and subsequently select and implement the most effective option available to him/her. Finally, the role that the modern diplomat plays in present-day international relations and how he/she is able to most effectively promote the interest of the State or organization he/she represents is evaluated.
